I started out a painter that eventually moved to sculpture, and

have recently moved back to painting. I still have the need to

BUILD the paintings, and still prefer working with oil on wood. I

love the feel of wood and how it accepts color.

My “relief paintings” have a top layer that is composed of cut

out shapes that make patterns. I incorporate semi-abstract

forms that reflect images found in nature, like flowers, buds,

leaves and more and various “speech bubbles” and punctuation

marks, a direct reference to communication. The bottom layer

supports the top layer physically as well as re-enforcing the

sense of light that is build up through COLOR and adds depth. I

build the color up in layers, to create a sense of LIGHT coming

from inside the painting. The final product should feel alive

with LIGHT, color, pattern, and movement. ILLUMINATED.

Breathing out LIFE from within, like a heartbeat, or a pulse.

There is a conversation that can be lively and intense or feel

very soft spoken and intimate.

I embrace new possibilities in painting and see this work as

living constructions, drawings in space, and meditations on

moving choreography that radiates positive energy from within.
